The Mazer Brothers company was founded in 1926 by brothers Louis and Joseph Mazer in New York City. Joseph left to form his own company - Joseph J. Mazer and Co. - better known as JOMAZ, in 1946 while Louis continued Mazer Bros. into the early fifties. Later jewelry was designed by Andre Fleuridas, and in the 70s by Adolfo. Mazer is known for high quality, interesting designs and the use of Swarovski crystals. Mazer jewelry is very collectible.

This brooch by Kramer is a real piece of art
Modernist design loaded with rhinestones, and a beautiful variegated red porphyr art glass cabochon stone.
Rhinestones are clear, blue, purple clear with an aurora borealis coating.

Porphyr or Purpurin (glass is an opaque glass of brownish to lustrous deep-reddish color which in classical antiquity was used for residential luxury objects, mosaics, and various decorative purposes. This type of glass is somewhat harder than normal glass but can be easily cut and polished.
Kramer was founded by Louis Kramer in 1943. Since all activities of the company were centered in New York City many of the pieces are marked “Kramer NYC or Kramer of New York. The company was known for its intricate design work and use of rhinestones particularly in floral or geometric patterns. Kramer was also a maker for Dior in the 1950s-60s. Marcel Boucher started his one costume jewelry company in 1937 after stints at Cartier and Mazer Brothers. Born in Paris, he moved with Cartier to New York City. Boucher was known for his bold designs of animals, plants and people as well as his enamel work. He married late in life to his former assistant, Sandra, who ran the company after his death in 1964 through 1972. Boucher used many different marks which can help date the pieces. “MB Sterling” - 1942 and 1944. From 1944 and 1949 pieces may have a Phrygian cap above his initials. After 1944, pieces may have either of the following marks - “Marcel Boucher” or “Boucher.” If the piece has the copyright symbol it is after 1955. Serial number dating may be found here.

Kenneth Jay Lane is one of the most successful costume jewelers of all time. He got his start designing shoes for Delman and Christian Dior, using his free time to create jewelry. By the late 60s, he had opened his own design house. Lane has designed jewelry all across the price spectrum from unique designs for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to Avon; from Bergdorf Goodman to QVC. His jewelry is known for it's high quality and incredible style range from classic pearls and gold metal door knocker earrings to ethnic tribal pieces and even over-the-top rococo and baroque designs. KJL has designed for many companies over the past 50 years and the age of his pieces can be determined by the mark. Every woman should have at least one piece of KJL in her collection.

Eisenberg & Sons rose from its beginnings as a ladies clothing manufacturer in 1914 that made a little jewelry to sell dresses, to one of the premier costume jewelry companies in the world. Known for the quality of their design, stones and mounting, Eisenberg made all styles of jewelry including replicas of 18th century jewelry, abstract pieces and wonderful Christmas pins. The company is still in business and their vintage pieces are some of the most collectible costume jewelry. Eisenberg had several different types of marks through the years. Eisenberg Ice dates from the 1970s and is still used today.

We have not found much information on this company. We do know that Gray was a designer for Coro before starting his own company in the 1930s.

Hubert de Givenchy was one of the most important fashion designers of the 20th Century. He founded his fashion house in 1952 and dressed some of the most important women of the day. Audrey Hepburn was his most famous muse. He trained with the iconic designers Jacques Fath, Pierre Balmain, Christian Dior, and Elsa Schiaparelli.
The House of Givenchy was split in 1981, with the perfume line going to Veuve Clicquot, while the fashion branch was acquired by LVMH in 1989. LVMH eventually acquired the perfume business as well. Givenchy retired in 1995 and passed in 2018 at age 91. Subsequent designers for the house include John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Riccardo Tisci and the current head of design Claire Waight Keller.

Intricate seed pearl and rhinestone brooch by De Mario. Upper corner features a decorated antique gold metal butterfly. Opposite bottom is a lovely flower in pink and blue pearls. Brooch is further adorned with antique gold leaves of various sizes each topped with a sparkling clear rhinestone. The this piece is a great example of the designs that for which DeMario was known - Seed pearls and intricate leaves.
De Mario was started by Robert Demario in 1945 in New York. Many sources claim he worked for Miriam Haskell but this is not documented. The intricacy of his work is definitely similar to Haskell pieces. Rebert De Mario retired and closed his business in 1965.
