G. Howard Hodge was one of the best-known American milliners of the mid 20th Century. Born in California. He was a member of the Millinery Creators Group, specializing in high quality ready-made hats. In the 1930s and 1940s he made authorized reproductions of leading Paris milliners including Gilbert Orcel and Jacques Fath. He has several 1930s hats in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Mentioned and/or advertised in fashion magazines in 1930s through 1950s. Labels include "G. Howard Hodge", "G. Howard Hodge Exclusive", "G. Howard Hodge Jr.", a less expensive line for young women). Hodge died May 13, 1966.

This brooch by Kramer is a real piece of art with an abstract design loaded with rhinestones, and a beautiful variegated red porphyr art glass cabochon stone. Rhinestones are clear, blue, purple clear with an aurora borealis coating. Brooch is enhanced with detailed gold metal prongs and gold glass leaves.
Porphyr or Purpurin (glass is an opaque glass of brownish to lustrous deep-reddish color which in classical antiquity was used for residential luxury objects, mosaics and various decorative purposes. This type of glass is somewhat harder than normal glass but can be easily cut and polished.
Kramer was founded by Louis Kramer 1943. Since all activities of the company were centered in New York City many of the pieces are marked “Kramer NYC or Kramer of New York. The company was know for it intricate design work and use of rhinestones particularly in floral or geometric patterns. Kramer was also a maker for Dior in the 1950s-60s. Known for the quality of their design, stones and mounting, Eisenberg made all styles of jewelry including replicas of 18th century jewelry, abstract pieces and wonderful Christmas pins. The company is still in business and their vintage pieces are some of the most collectible pieces of costume jewelry.

Jacques Hobe', a master craftsman a jeweler to the French court, founded the Hobe Company in 1887 in Paris. His grandson William Hobe immigrated to New York City in the mid 1920s and established Hobe et Cie, a family business producing high quality costume jewelry.
Florence Ziegfeld commissioned Hobe to make stage jewelry for the Ziegfeld Follies leading to Hobe’s long association with the film industry. By the 1940s, Hobe jewelry was billed as “Jewels of Legendary Splendor" and advertised in magazines modeled by Hollywood’s movie stars such as Bette Davis and Carole Lombard. The family stopped producing jewelry in the 1990s, but a Hobe company still produces jewelry today.
